The best news ever is that God did not give up on His creation. Instead the Bible teaches us that God loved the world so much that He sent His only son, who we know to be Jesus, in order to save all those who would believe in Jesus (John 3:16). God's sending of Jesus is the greatest act of mercy ever!
Afterall, Jesus is God too! He is the second person of the Trinity, fully equal with the God the Father and possessing all the same attributes, affections, and will. But Jesus chose to put on human flesh, thereby being both fully God and fully man to save humanity (Philippians 2:6-8).
Jesus had to come, there was no other option. Why? All of humanity stands condemned before God and is incapable of saving itself. Therefore, God intervened and provided Jesus as a substitute to pay the penalty we deserved. This substitution took place on the cross where the Bible teaches us that Jesus died for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8).
On that Roman cross Jesus took the guilt of our sins upon himself even though he never sinned himself (2 Corinthians 5:21). This allowed Jesus to pay the penalty for our sins by enduring the wrath of God that we had earned and deserved for our sinfulness (Isaiah 53:5). The end result being that we were freed from the curse of our lawbreaking (Galatians 3:13) because Jesus paid the full penalty for our sins and satisfied the wrath of God we had justly earned.
Since the penalty of sin is death (Romans 6:23), Jesus had to die to completely pay the penalty for our sins as our substitute (1 Peter 3:18). Yet Jesus did not stay dead! God resurrected him on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:4; 1 Thessalonians 4:14; Matthew 28:6; Mark 16:6; Luke 24:5-7) and Jesus is now sitting at the right hand of the God in Heaven where he rules over creation (1 Peter 3:22).
The resurrection is proof that God accepted the sacrifice of Jesus (Romans 4:25) and proof that those who believe in Jesus will be resurrected too (John 11:25).
Prior to his death on the cross Jesus proclaimed "it is finished!" (John 19:30). Meaning that Jesus accomplished everything needed for salvation! There is nothing that you can contribute to your salvation, Jesus did all the work! God's justice was fully satisifed and His wrath appeased. This is why the Bible says "we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ..." and "there is therefore now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus." (Romans 5:1; 8:1). Thus, Jesus was victorious, the mission He came to earth to complete was accomplished. Jesus secured salvation for all those who believe in Him.
